Although not mineralized, amber is often considered a gemstone and has been included in many pieces of jewellery throughout the ages. Amber is actually fossil tree resin, which is the semi-solid amorphous, organic substance that is secreted in pockets and canals through the plant. It is not (as it is often assumed to be) tree sap.

Amber occurs in a range of different colours, varying from a whitish yellow through a pale lemon shade to a brown, almost black variety. More uncommon colours include red (or cherry) amber, green amber and even blue amber, a rare and sought after colour choice.

About 92% of the world's extractable amber is located in the Baltic Sean region. Most amber dates from between 35 to 40 million years ago. Some amber is considered to be up to 345 million years old.

Along the beaches of northern Poland, amber has long ridden the waves of the Baltic Sea, washing ashore in troves. Near modern-day Gdansk, the first ancient amber guilds (or artisans) formed to ply and perfect the glowing treasure thrown upon their shores. These ancient amber guilds have treated us with a science and reverence that over the centuries has produced the world's finest amber jewellery. That tradition continues to live in the pieces you'll discover at The Shopping Channel.

How to care for your Amber:
Clean your amber with lukewarm water and mild soap. Do not use chemical cleaners. Shine with a bit of vegetable oil. Store your jewellery separately so that it does not scratch, and put it on only after using your cosmetics and hair spray.

Love this one

Beautiful bracelet, the only problem is that the lobster claw is far too small. Bought the cognac and it goes beautiful with the earring & pendent I purchased as well.

I would buy this product again but!

By MARETTA

I bought this bracelet in green and loved it as soon as it arrived. However, after wearing it for 2 hours it was no longer on my wrist; the very shoddy clasp had failed. Fortunately the bracelet was found and exchanged. The replacement will be getting a new and safer clasp.

Where I come from clasps, such as the ones I saw on these two bracelets, would have been known as "ships being lost for a ha'porth of tar"!
A very questionable selling technique.

Second time's the charm!

By maggie

from newmarket, ontario

The first bracelet I received was more of a 'green'
colour rather than the butter yellow. So I exchanged
it and the second bracelet was that lovely butter
colour. Lots of silver work, looks really nice on
my 'watch' hand. A bit of a challenge to put on as
the clasp (lobster claw) is very small. Otherwise,
very nice.

Nice colour of cherry in the stones and the silverwork is well done. The bracelet is comfortable. Happy with my purchase.

A small disappointment

By Barbara

from Toronto

Recently I had ordered a butter sterling silver amber bracelet # 459-330. When I got my order, I got surprised ,too. My amber is not yellow but white, and the bracelet is much smaller than presented on TV and in the shopping channel. The lock is very small and it's hard to put this bracelet without someone's else help.
But, looks nice and elegant on a wrist, and people notice it.
