Akebono is a new tulip from Japan whose name means "bright sky at daybreak". We don't think there could be a more appropriate name! These amazing flowers will stop you dead in your tracks with their huge pale yellow double blooms touched with red and green atop super-sturdy stems. These fully double tulips have large, ruffled petals that resemble peonies, in fact, they are sometimes referred to as Peony Tulips. Some are fragrant and all have flower heads that can reach up to 4 inches, 10 cm across which not only adds to their allure in the garden but as cut flowers as well. Just imagine your own home-made bouquet overflowering with a few of these spectacular blooms! They are considered late spring bloomers so if you're looking to extend your spring flowering season they're the perfect choice.

Good site selection, thorough soil preparation ensuring excellent drainage, feeding your Tulip bulbs annually with organic compost and allowing foliage to ripen naturally will all contribute to the successful blooming and continuation of your Tulip bulbs.
