This 2012 $10 Fine Silver proof coin features The HMS Shannon with full sails leaving the Halifax harbor during the War of 1812. In view in the background are the docks and buildings of early 19th-century Halifax Harbour. A gold-plated cameo in the top right corner of the coin is of the original figurehead from the Shannon's bow. It is embossed with the text "1812-2012" and "HMS Shannon".

HMS Shannon

20 nautical miles east Boston a battle erupted between Britain's HMS Shannon and the USS Chesapeake on June 1, 1813. With provisions and moral low, her highly trained, skilled and experienced crew successfully defended against a heavier manned opponent. It was a bloody 15 minute battle that won
a critical victory for Britain.

5+/5 drop dead gorgeous coin

By Steven the Beaver

from Halifax

Gift for BOTH of my native Nova Scotian sons, one finishing his Ph.D. at the LSE in England in June, the other finishing a post-doc at NASA in Goddard, Maryland TO REMIND THEM OF THEIR HALIGONIAN ROOTS. "The Shannon" shows Halifax Harbour in 1812.

The detail on the MHS warship is phenomenal & the gold-plated masthead is nice.

There's nothing not nice about this coin. I bought three of them from tSc.
Even the price was fine as it is more detailed and of lower mintage than most $10 face value coins.
