About Newfoundland Coins:
Since Newfoundland did not join Canadian confederation until 1949, it has a long history of its own coinage. As a province that is now part of Canada and because many of the coins were minted by the Royal Canadian Mint in Ottawa, coins of Newfoundland are widely collected by Canadians in all parts of the country. In addition to their interesting history and the fact that they are substantially different from other coins of Canada, many of the coins of Newfoundland had very low mintages.
