This is a complete original mint box of Canada's last one cent coins struck at the Royal Canadian Mint, containing 50 mint rolls of brilliant uncirculated 2012 copper plated steel one cent coins.

After a 154 year history, Canada's one cent coin was officially discontinued on May 4, 2012. While 2012 mintage figures will not be released until the spring of 2013, these coins are nearly impossible to find in change, reminiscent of the rare 1991 quarter (which now sells for about $500 per roll). These coins are expected to be the lowest mintage in many decades.

To make this issue even more interesting, two distinctly different types of coins were produced during the short production run. The first coins were produced using magnetic copper plated multiply steel blanks, while coins produced after this first run were struck using non-magnetic copper plated zinc blanks. While both varieties appear to be scarce, the copper plated steel coins appear to be the most difficult to obtain.

• Original mint boxes include standard shrink wrap rolls (without any special wrap)

Overpriced

This is a perfect example of someone trying to create demand to push prices up. It's true that its hard to find 2012 pennies in the GTA but anyone living in the Ottawa area knows that 2012 pennies are as common as any other penny. As a matter of fact, if you go to the gift shop, they give you change in new 2012 coins, including 2012 pennies. Sure they are out of production but no where near the prices this coin dealer thinks they are worth.

i had purchased a box of the zinc pennies and when the steel centered coins became available i jumped at the chance. the gentleman selling his wares showed, on tv, that the rarer steel covered pennies allowed magnets to stick to the outside of the box of 50 rolls. i opened the outer boxes and tried 6 different magnets (the assurance of being the rarer steel centered)and none stuck. i spoke with customer service who advised me they would get in touch wih the vendor about this. they did not do this so i did not trust that they were steel centered and returned them. i am now stuck with only he zinc centered pennies and not both zinc and steel. i am very disappoinedwith shopping channel and hencly the supplier.
