Slow to get here, but good product

By Suzanne

I agree that part of the software came early and the laptop came weeks later, then I also had to wait for another piece of software, then the laptop bag came much later, so clearly TSC and DELL "need" to tighten up how the shipping happens and/or make it VERY CLEAR to us prior to ordering. That said... I found the laptop to be very easy to use and pretty much plug and play. I've never seen Windows 8.1 before and I had no problem with it, although I'm still on a learning curve. I agree with another reviewer that I didn't like having to go online for my word processing activities, but it was very easy to get the FULL VERSION of Microsoft Office 2013. It is NOT a trial version. I also had no problem accessing the FULL LIFETIME VERSION of the MacAfee Antivirus Plus AFTER I contacted them and they promptly gave me a new access code because the one that came with my package didn't work. Works great now and I love it. So, some minor software glitches that got resolved pretty quickly, then it was smooth sailing for my purposes. Oh.. and I use a mouse and not because of the "little click" sound from the pad.. I just prefer it. This laptop essentially does what it says it does. Most of the complaints are to do with software or windows 8.1 or length of delivery time. What do people think about the actual laptop and how easy the keys are for typing, etc?

"Don't judge a laptop by its cover"

By The Shopper

from Ontario

This product came defected and was not functional a couple of days of set up. The product was disappointing. Return was not with ease at all. This experience was not a good one for me but it might have been great for someone else.

Mixed Emotions

By MRSCLAUS

from WOODSTOCK, ONTARIO

Ordered the laptop around January 5, 2014 and it finally arrived in March. Quite enjoy using the Dell laptop however it didn't come with the software that was supposed to be included....still waiting for that to be shipped; so I haven't been able to do anything that I would like to have been able to with the Office program:( Just want to make note that the Live Chat with Customer Service Representatives has been an amazing experience - they have all been so helpful the numerous times I have contacted them about this purchase. Hopefully the software arrives soon and I will be able to use the laptop more fully. The real downfall about this whole experience was the amount of time it took for the order to be processed as it technically still isn't fully processed since I haven't rec'd the software as of yet. I DO LOVE THE LAPTOP:)

Not at all disappointing...

By Gabriella

Most of the ratings refer to the length of time it took for the delivery of the computer and the other accessories. I think it is unfair to judge the whole product with this criteria alone. Perhaps The Shopping Channel erred in that it was not made clear during the online presentation that the shipment would take a number of weeks to arrive at destination and that not all pieces would arrive at the same time. Prior to placing my order, I had read reviews regarding Dell computers which had been sold previously by the Shopping Channel. In those reviews I found out that it would take about three weeks to have the product delivered to my home. So I was not surprised that this was true in my case, and I was not surprised that the other items arrived on different days. Everything did arrive in good condition.

I purchased the 17.3" laptop at the Showstopper price in the silver colour, and it looks good. I like the bigger screen. When I plugged in the computer, it was mostly set up and ready to go, except for a few details that had to be entered. The app based Windows 8.1 is not intimidating to me since I already used apps on my cell phone and on my small tablet. It does take a bit of learning and getting used to, but it is not too difficult. Also, the screen can be switched to view and work from the old Windows platform for those who prefer that. The Microsoft Office disc was easy to download, and it is a lifetime subscription not just a trial. To date, I have not downloaded the contents of the other software disc. Someone commented on the fact that the MacAfee protection is in fact a lifetime support. Dell is also offering free online or telephone support for those who want/need it. On the software disc, there are tutorials on how to use the new Windows 8.1. For those who complained about the onboard mouse making too loud a clicking noise, get a wireless mouse. It's much easier to use.

All in all, I think this Dell laptop is a good product and it performs as advertised. People have to realize that if they get something new, then they will have to learn some new things about it. I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to computers and to software etc. However, I am willing to try and to learn new things. It makes life more interesting!

Bitter/Sweet

By stew_c

from Saint John (New Brunswick)

I bought a laptop a year back from TSC and was very happy with it. When I decided to get one this year, I expected the same results.

WRONG.

I'm not going to rant and rave about this laptop. Minus my personal issues with it, it is a decent machine and works well for the basic home needs. It would be perfect for students who used it for school work.

My only issue is that I bought it for a specific reason. To play games. It isn't a "gaming" computer but neither was my last laptop and it runs games perfect. This one however, crashes within seconds of any decent graphics. The processor, AMD A8 Elite Quad-Core is suppose to be a more gaming lined processor, it's placement in this laptop is useless.

Lesson learned, pay attention to what you buy. Sometimes things are advertised to be better then they are.

Sorry I invested in this computer

By PATRICIA

from SCARBOROUGH

Lost my previous Dell laptop in the ice storm and wanted something familiar and easy to use. Like others I waited a long time for delivery - it was not worth the wait. I am not overly computer literate so I needed something easy to set up and use. This computer is not user friendly. My daughter works on an apple for her art courses and my son-in-law designs websites. They both find this Dell confusing. I find it frustrating! In reading what others have written I realize that I had forgotten about the Software package because it arrived so much ahead of the computer and I already purchased Mcafee because I was worried about security. I loved my previous Dell purchased from the Shopping Channel and thought I was simply getting an updated version. I will never buy a computer online again.

How do they stay in business????

By Richard

from montreal

I purchased the dell computer in early January and still have not received it, but they have charged my credit card. Contacted them numerous times, all I get is the magic word "Sorry". It was a mistake to buy from tsc. It was my first and last purchase. The shopping channel ruined their reputation in one single transaction....just cause you say "sorry" does not fix the problem.

NOT IMPRESSED!

By Emm

from BC

I have purchased MANY products from TSC, including a previous version of Dell laptop several years ago which I was very satisfied with (because it was basically "plug and play"), but I have to say that this laptop is the most dissapointing purchase experience I have ever had with TSC. Like many other reviewers commented, it took FAR TOO LONG to arrive. The software arrived first (and the bill) which was confusing. Then the software had to be installed by the consumer...a process I always dread. I made the mistake of attempting to do this in a hurry... ran out of time and had to quit the process before it was comlete, tried to cancel it,forgot to write down a password and succeeded in locking myself out of the computer. Being a Friday night,it was impossible to get Dell tech support and after wasting several more hours trying to contact them the following week ,I finally asked my private tech guy to FIX IT, to the tune of a couple hundred dollars! I've also discovered that windows 8 is horrible, not intuitive at all...another waste of time trying to relearn the basics... and office is still not installed (don't like to have to be connected to the web to use personal word processing). One final point, the mouse buttons are loud! I'd send it back if I could, but it's too late.

McAfee Life of PC software-won't load

By dot

from Halifax

1. My new laptop from Dell gets a 5-star rating! Love it. Love Windows 8- Yes, I'd recommend this Dell pc offer to a friend if it wasn't associated with the McAfee software.

2. McAfee 'Life of PC Antivirus' software is 1-star only. Mostly because it is only installed as a trial and the software that I have on the CD (included) won't even load with the key. I'm pretty computer savvy and the time that I have invested in this, with my busy life, is not appreciated. I have 5 days left on the trial and will probably have to go ahead and buy new antivirus software all over again when it runs out. So, no, would not recommend McAfee antivirus software as associated with this offer. Just not worth the hassle :(

Ordered Jan 4th

By TaraC

from Toronto

I have software and a carring case but no laptop, it is February 26th! I was just told it was "in production" and Dell will not cancel it. How is it that something that has yet to be made cannot be cancelled?
