Loved the ring but found the gold plating to be washed out - hardly any gold colour! Alexandrite stones, paper thin with tiny claws - afraid they will be lost with wear. Sapphires have a nice sparkle.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is my 2nd attempt to receive a colour changing Alexandrite in this ring. The 1st ring I received was lovely but the alexandrites were a washed out pale green, more like pale peridots with no colour change so I thought I would try once again with the great sale price AND I was lucky!!! The 2nd ring has med. green alexandrites and under different light conditions they change to a purple/pink with flashes of orange/red. Alexandrite is my birthstone and I am very, very happy to have this beautiful ring. The workmanship is excellent....I am returning to 1st ring BUT certainly keeping the 2nd one....love it!
Chrysoberyl or alexandrite?
from CONCEPTION BAY SOUTH
This is a beautiful ring. The workmanship and quality are outstanding. The ring has a comfortable profile - neither too high nor too flat. The white sapphires are very nice. Diamonds would be nicer, but then the price wouldn't be in my budget! The difficulty is with the 'alexandrites' and is why I have given this ring a 4 instead of a 5 star rating. I am no expert, but my understanding is that true alexandrite, by definition, changes from a green to a red colour in daylight vs artificial light. It is very dramatic and unmistakable. I have seen it when jewellery shopping while cruising in the Caribbean. VERY EXPENSIVE! Chrysoberyl is essentially the same gemstone, but can be with or without colour change properties. If the colour change is slight or of different colours than certain recognized alexandrite combinations, then the gem is not classified as alexandrite. If this is true, then the gems that I have are NOT alexandrite, but chrysoberyl. Still a nice gem, but not in the same league as true Russian alexandrite. Please be aware that this is my understanding. Also note that my experience may not be typical. I love Generations 1912 jewellery and have bought many pieces from them - including many 'alexandrite' pieces. None have been what I believe are alexandrite. However, they are still beautiful and valuable in their own right. They are just not as valuable as alexandriteI am keeping the ring anyway, but buyer beware. Know that you may be buying chrysoberyl, not alexandrite. True Russian alexandrite would likely be up to 4 to 5 times the price of this ring.. If you are wondering about this you can do a search online or go visit your favourite gemnologist to get more information. This ring is worth the price for the workmanship alone, IMO. Especially at the sale price I would recommend it to a friend, but I would also let them know what they are probably buying.
This is my first purchase from this line, and the ring is beautiful. The alexandrite has great colour and the stone does change colour under different lighting. The white sapphires sparkle. Would purchase from this line again.
I like the setting which is quite typical of Generations 1912 -- lovely milgrain work and the saphires on the ring I got do sparkle. The Alexandrite is quite pale -- at first I thought I received the incorrect ring. I have a couple of Alexandrite rings (one from Generations 1912) and both are a clear mid-green and have colour change properties. If I had paid full price for the ring it would be going back, however at the sale price it does have some value.

I love this ring. When I opened the box it was even better than I expected. First of all, the alexandrite stone is the middle has both green and the wonderful purple/red tones. The colour is deep and very much a colour changing stone. I am a diamond lover so I was very surprised at the brightness of the white sapphires. The ring is comfortable and is a good style for everyday wear. I am pleased to own this stone as it is the birthstone for both my mother and oldest grand daughter. Generations 1912 continues to be one of my favourites.
Wanted to love it

I coveted this ring for a long time and finally bought it in the gold plate. The gold was dull along with the sapphires. I was hoping they would sparkle like diamonds, but they don't, and it detracts from the overall look. The setting and Alexandrites are lovely. The green shade is nice, but not colour changing. I have an old Alexandrite that vibrantly changes from violet to blue and green. No comparison. Reluctantly returning, as the quality is not worth the sale price. It may look nicer in the rodium.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Nice to Have Something Rare
I love this ring too. I am amassing a collection of 1912 rings, and this is a favourite. I have to admit dion't see a lot of colour change in this one, but is very pretty anyway.

Third Time Ordering ......
from Medicine Hat, Alberta
I just received the third ring today. I sent the others back because I thought I was getting poor quality stones. Well, I've come to realize that I'm just not an alexandrite lover. The colour is just too washed out. So very light in colour, and NO the stones do not change colour!! I don't know how people are finding that they do!! Anyhow, I'll keep the ring simply because I'm told alexandrite is rare; especially Russian alexandrite. Whether that is true, I have no idea. Could be a good sales pitch! I have a large collection of jewellery, so I'll just keep it to add to my collection. I'm not thrilled at all with the colour of the stones. You can barely notice that they're even green. Still love Generations 1912 - my favourite line of jewellery at TSC. I guess I'm just not an alexandrite fan. I don't normally order gold plate either, so I'm a little leary on how well the plating will hold.

I wear this ring almost every day . It is comfortable and beautiful. When I wear my sunglasses the stones appear pink. This suggests that it does have color change properties. Other green objects do not appear pink. The light source might be attributed to the color shift. any one else find this? I do love the green color wish that I had the matching earrings.
