About Egyptian Cotton

Egyptian cotton is used to create bedding of all types, from sheets to pillowcases to comforters. The long staple or long fiber of Egyptian-grown cotton means that there is more continuous fiber to use when creating threads or yarns. This yarn is smaller in diameter yet stronger than other cottons. Smaller yarn means that more threads per square inch can be use to create stronger fabric which is light in weight yet breathes well.

More threads per inch mean that the thread count on the bedding label will be higher. Many buyers think that choosing high thread count sheets is the only gauge of quality. This is not true, but in the case of cotton grown in Egypt, the higher thread count means the fabric will be incredibly strong and will last for years and years. If cared for properly, Egyptian produced cotton fabric used for creating bedding products can last for decades.

However, with every single laundering, the cotton sheets from Egyptian fibers become softer and softer. Like a fine wine, age improves the Egyptian fiber cotton bedding and, unlike many products, you will prize your Egyptian fiber sheets of cotton more and more as they age and become soft and cuddly. Cotton grown in the Egyptian fields will also produce less lint and therefore will not pill after repeated washings.

Egyptian remains King of the cotton world today and will retain that crown for many years into the future.

The Shopping Channel

About Thread Count & Ply
At The Shopping Channel we have made a commitment to ensure quality in our sheets and accuracy in thread count. Thread count is the number of individual threads in a square inch.

All of our sheets are sent out to an independent laboratory for testing to ensure accuracy. We also make certain that our sheets are single ply. Single ply produces a higher quality, tighter weave and softer product.

What this means is that there are single threads on the warp (horizontal direction) and single threads on the weft or fill (vertical direction) to create a single ply. Adding the number of single threads in each direction in an inch provides the thread count.

In some cases there may be multiple pick insertions or parallel threads, which are also considered single ply.
In the following example, the yarns are twisted together to create a single thread, therefore there are only 8 threads not 16. Each twisted yarn is a multiple ply yarn. However, in some cases these may be incorrectly advertised at a higher thread count (16 in this case) as they are inaccurately counting yarns and not threads. The yarns used may be thinner and weaker, however, the result is a heavier fabric.

Home Suit Sheet Set

By littlebear

from Calgary Alberta

Bronze Reviewer

I've ordered the pink set a while ago and I have used them on a regular basis. I love the luxurious feel of the sheets; they launder beautifully and the size is quite generous for my queen sized bed.

The colour is brilliant, after several washings there has not been any fading. It was new for me to launder sheets in warm water; but they came out beautifully clean.

I will be ordering the duvet cover as well and I am looking forward the the new products that Home Suit brings in.

Just The Right Fit

I ordered the ivory colour to match the sheet set i ordered. I really like the added touch of the jacquard border. It gives it a look of elegance to the bedroom. The quality the fit and the feel of this sheet set is good. Over all i am pleased with my purchase and i plan to shop with the Home Suite Collection in the near future.

Lovely sheets

By Colette

I'm quite impressed with this sheet set. Being Eygptian cotton, they are so soft, and only improve with washing. They aren't 100% wrinkle free when they come out of the dryer, but don't tend to wrinkle as much as other sheet sets that I've had. The size is generous, and have deep pockets, which helps to keeep the bottom sheet in place. I would definitely order another set.

No response to my inquiry

By Mirff

from Saskatoon, SK.

I have contacted the Shopping Channel twice in the last two days by email and mentioned that I have not yet used this product as well the Homesuite Bed Sheets. Now while looking at the negative views I wish to return the unused products that I purchased in Jan. 2012. I did not use these products as I was hoping to buy a duvet from TSC; however now I just wish to return these items. I have not received an answer one way or the other to my inquiry and am disappointed with the lack of response by TSC.

very disappointed

Bought this to cover the king size silk duvet I also purchased from TSC. The quality is very poor. There were several seams where the sewing was coming apart. Too much trouble to take off and send back so have fixed it myself. The sewing quality is very poor and would not recommend this set

Poor Quality

By TP

from BC

Helpful Reviewer

I ordered this as it seemed to look good on tv but when I received it it was like the other review said "very wrinkled" Also one of the pillow shams was sewn closed halfway through to the border on the other side. The thread was loose and hanging from it. I returned it. Not good quality control. I had ordered homesuite before and was not happy with it. I think this will be the last time

A big disappointment!

By HOLLY

from TORONTO

Silver Reviewer

I was looking forward to having a fresh duvet cover and bedskirt. The colour was a beautiful pale blue and the fabric felt soft. Because of the smell and wrinkles I washed everything in the wash and wear cycle and watched the dryer carefully so that they did not overdry. I tried to leave the bedskirt unironed but eventually had to use my steamer which removed the wrinkles but did not help with the puckers where the jacquard attached to the smooth fabric. The duvet cover and pillow shams required ironing. Back to the drawing board for this product!
