The French term, En Plein Air, describes the act of painting outdoors. This energetic method of painting, first made popular in the mid to late 1800's, was crucial to the impressionist movement. The practice continues in full swing today with professional societies, publications, shows and festivals. Among the best is Marsha Connell who was selected to paint our En Plein Air collection. Her ability to connect with and capture the spirit of her subject is impressive.
"Painting on location, en plein air, in oil, watercolor or pastel, I observe the place: mood, shapes, colour and spatial relationships. I reflect on how the sense of place affects my own interior landscape." - Marsha Connell
