Nordic Ware Rectangular Cake Keeper

I bought this item from The Shopping Channel several months ago. It's been used several times and I've found it a handy item to have around. We've used this in our own kitchen for storing cakes, deep dish rectangular pies, cupcakes, dessert bars, etc. This has been used this for serving desserts and/or sandwiches to guests. Plus, I've used this to bring dessert bars, sandwishes, cookies and even sushi to various get-togethers. Hint: when transporting food I lined the tray with either parchment or a rectangular paper doily and then 'glued' the paper onto the tray with a little bit of glaze/icing. This was done to help prevent the food from moving around and will allow your edible arrangement to stay looking nice and tidy. That is, until the guests dive in! Which reminds me, some guests are not all that careful about how they use serving utensils, so the lining will protect your tray, too. I've watched some guests who seem to think they must dig under the serving of food in order to remove it from the serving plate. They are not trying to damage anything, just overly zealous about gathering food.

I really like the design of this tray and cover. It is a sturdily made item and I've found it is standing up to the use I've put it through very well. The locking mechanism is easy to use and dependable. The cover works well to keep the food items fresh, but visible for the guests. Because it is a thicker acrylic-type construction, it is lightweight. Anyone can lift the cover and not worry about cracking or chipping the tray or cover when replacing the cover! It is safe around children, no worrying about the possibility they might ingest a glass shard! Or, be cut from a sharp edged chip!

I would not use this for an ultra formal event, but would certainly use this for most affairs. I don't mind hand washing this item, as it is light and easy to wash. I do dry it, rather than letting it air dry, just my preference. I've had several people comment on how they were fooled by thinking it was glass until they lifted the cover. Just a trick of the eye and easy to assume it is glass because the plastic is so clear, I think.

Not only have I been recommending this item to friends, this is a product I've been asked many times where a person might get one for themselves.

Nordic ware cake pans are amazing, but these cake keepers are made of cheap plastic. I got the bundt shaped keeper...Will have to be really careful with it...and am sure it will become brittle in no time if I put it in the dishwasher, which of course I won't...SO DISAPPOINTED!!!
