This is one of the most attractive and interesting coins produced by the Royal Canadian Mint in 2011. The theme is "The warmth of a mother's love, featuring an image of an Inuit woman with her baby looking over her shoulder from inside the hood of her amauti. The design is enhanced using selective plating in pink and yellow gold. The denomination is unusual as well, being three dollars. The finish is double struck frosted cameo proof, while the silver content is .9999 pure.
The warmth of a mother's love
Every child loves to snuggle up to its mother. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the Arctic where Inuit mothers must keep their children safe and warm against one of the harshest environments on earth. The amauti is a parka ingeniously designed for that purpose. It has a large hood and pouch to carry a baby and free up a busy mother's hands; and loose shoulders so the child can easily be moved from the back to the front.
