This 2012 $4 Dollar coin features Tecumseh against an engraved background with the words "The War of 1812" in both English and French. In the design is the engraved and painted Government of Canada War of 1812 logo: composed of stylistic 1812 typography encompassed by a stylized maple leaf with
ecru swords crossing behind it. The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
One of the legendary Canadian Heroes of 1812, the great Shawnee Chief Tecumseh fought heroically during Tecumseh's War and in the War of 1812. He is most well-known for his early role in the War, when he joined the British commander of Upper Canada, Major-General Sir Isaac Brock in the battle to
capture Detroit. Over the course of the War of 1812, he led over 2,000 warriors and fought at the sieges of Fort Meigs and Fort Stephenson. As he was a dynamic leader and warrior his name meant both "shooting star" and "crouching panther". Tecumseh has become an iconic folk hero in Canadian history.
This coin is a tribute to the heroes of the War of 1812 and will make an ideal gift for historians and admirers of Aboriginal history.
