This is the first large proof silver beaver coin ever produced in Canada, weighing 5 ounces of pure silver. With a beautiful and popular design and a mintage of just 1,500 coins, this is likely to be a coin with much greater demand than the limited mintage. It is currently offered at the official issue price.

The coin features a portrait of a beaver family, its members immersed in the work of felling trees for their dam, lodge, and food cache. The image occupies the entire reverse field and is engraved with the word "CANADA," the date "2013," and the face value of "50 DOLLARS." The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The coin is double struck with a selective proof cameo finish. The obverse field is a new finish just introduced by the Royal Canadian Mint, featuring a subtle stippled finish.

This coin features a portrait of a beaver family, its members immersed in the work of felling trees for their dam, lodge, and food cache. On the left side of the image, a large beaver stands upright, hard at work chewing the trunk of a birch tree with its sharp incisors. Wood shavings cover the ground beneath the beaver's feet and around the base of the tree. The beaver itself stands on its back paws, counterbalanced by its large flat tail, holding the tree trunk with its dexterous front claws. Its small ears, eyes, and nose-which can seal themselves under water-are rendered in fine detail. On the right side of the image, behind and to the side of the upright beaver, another adult beaver and small kit work on either side of
a felled log, trimming away bark and preparing the log for use. On the extreme left of the image, the base of this felled tree is visible. The background of the image reveals a large pond backed by mountainous forest. The beavers' food cache emerges from the centre of the pond.

Outstanding detail and superb craftmanship. Kudos to Steven Bromberg for bringing this coin to TSC~~I always go online early when his shows are on because you just never know what is in store.

I keep this extra special coin portraying the Canadian beaver family hard at work creating their home~~a true wonder; on a table in my living room where I can enjoy the sparkle and shine day-in and day-out. TOP NOTCH !

Awesome Detail

I bought this coin to add to my collection. It is a great representation of Canadian Heritage. I have never bought a 5oz coin before, and I am happy I did with this one. There is so much detail, if the coin were any smaller you would not be able to appreciate it.
