This 2013 pure silver double struck proof coin has a four dollar denomination and is part of a series commemorating the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812. The coin features Charles de Salaberry set against an engraved background with the words "The War of 1812" in both English and French. In the design is the engraved and painted Government of Canada War of 1812 logo composed of stylistic 1812 typography encompassed by a stylized maple leaf with swords crossing behind it. The back features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Exclusive to The Shopping Channel, this coin is offered at the official issue price, but also includes two different numismatic uncirculated Salaberry 25 cent coins—one with a cameo contrast finish, and one with a mirror finish and coloured element—at no additional cost.
About de Salaberry:
Charles de Salaberry was best known for the role he played at the battle of Chateauguay. Though the numbers were stacked against them, 1700 Canadians managed to hold off 3000 Americans and deflected a full scale attack in Montreal. De Salaberry did so by putting up a blockade and created the illusion that they were a much stronger force. The Americans fell for the ruse and retreated.
