The polar bear is widely viewed as a symbol of power, courage, resourcefulness, and dignity, and to many it represents the essence of Canada. In a nation dominated by weather extremes, the Polar Bear's ability to survive and thrive in the harshest climate reflects Canadians' stalwart pragmatism and spirit of adventure. This gold and silver two coin set issued by the Royal Canadian Mint features the polar bear in its natural habitat. Both coins were designed by Canadian artist Germaine Arnaktauyok.
The $10 gold coin is struck in .9999 fine gold, and weighs one quarter of an ounce, while the large silver coin has the unusual $8 denomination, and weighs one and a half ounces of .9999 fine silver. Mintage is limited to 7500 sets.
Both coins are double struck with a frosted cameo finish set against a mirror background field. This is the highest quality finish produced by the Royal Canadian Mint. The total mintage is limited to 7500 sets. The coins are encapsulated and presented in a RCM-banded maple wood box with protective shipping sleeve.
