In the 1200 year history of the British monarch, Queen Elizabeth II is only the second monarch ever to reach 60 years on the throne. Only Queen Victoria, who reigned 64 years from 1837-1901, has reigned longer. The design features a double effigy of Elizabeth as a young woman at the time she came to the throne in 1952, together with her husband Prince Philip. The image is bordered by two decorative elements containing a shamrock, a (Tudor) rose, and a thistle (symbolic of the British Isles) as well as several maple leaves (symbolic of Canada).
