In 1985, about 99.9% of Canadian 1 cent coins were produced using the same master dies, in which the top of the "5" in 1985 was blunt or straight at the end. However, a very small run of coins was also produced using an alternate die, in which the 5 is pointed at the top. This has been a popular variety for collectors to seek, although few examples are ever found in uncirculated condition. This item includes one of the highest condition surviving uncirculated examples of the rare pointed 5 variety coin, plus a regular blunt 5 coin for comparison.
