This is a superb 1966 gem proof-like silver dollar, with a heavy cameo effect. The term heavy cameo refers to coins that have a distinctly frosted raised design that contrasts with the mirrored fields. For collector coins dated after 1980, this became the standard "proof" finish. However, for coins struck in 1966, this cameo contrast was only created for the first few coins when new and highly polished dies were first used. These premium coins are found less than one in every 100 proof-like coins.
The classic reverse design depicts a native Canadian and a Voyageur fur trader travelling in a canoe past a small island with windswept trees. The vertical lines in the background represent the northern lights. The obverse features the second "mature" effigy of Queen Elizabeth II.
The coin comes protected in a professional hard acrylic display holder.
