Product Overview
This 2014 50-cent coin is struck in 1/25th of an ounce of 99.99% pure gold. It is part of the popular Sea Creatures series, and depicts the fascinating seahorse, a sea-dwelling creature that lives along the coastline of Nova Scotia. The bony armour that covers the creature's body is captured in fine detail, illuminated by a proof finish.

This coin is engraved with the word "CANADA," the date "2014" and the face value of "50 CENTS." Mintage is limited to 7,500.  As a pure gold coin struck by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is HST/GST exempt.

The scientific name for seahorse, Hippocampus, comes from the Ancient Greek words "hippos", meaning "horse", and "kampos" meaning, "sea monster". Seahorses swim upright, and the males of the species carry the eggs of baby seahorses for 9 to 45 days until the children emerge fully formed from a kangaroo-like pouch.
