This 2014 Royal Canadian Mint silver dollar coin continues the tradition started in 1971 of producing a special silver commemorative dollar in each year featuring an important aspect of Canadian history. The 2014 coin commemorates the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War. The coin depicts a couple's last embrace before heading to war. A train can be seen in the background and soldiers ready to board. This coin is a reminder of the sacrifices made by those who answered the call of duty, and of their loved ones who remained on the home front. The front of the coin has the word "Canada", and the date 1914-2014, along with the denomination "Dollar".
The coin is double struck in .9999 pure silver with the Royal Canadian Mint's highest quality proof finish.
