This collection includes a complete 1939 Year set with all of the denominations issued for circulation in this year, together with a commemorative 1939 Royal Canadian Mint medallion and two historic postage stamps. All of the coins from the dime to the dollar in the 1939 coin set are made of silver. The 1939 coins come displayed in a high quality mahogany finish display case.

1939 was an exciting year for Canada. Although the economy was still in turmoil from the Great Depression and the world seemed to be on the brink of war, Canadians celebrated a Royal Visit from King George V, his wife Queen Elizabeth (the Queen Mother), and their young children Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret.

The event was marked by the issue of a special commemorative silver dollar featuring the Canadian parliament buildings, and a Royal Visit bronze medallion struck by the Royal Canadian Mint. The 1939 dollar was the first dollar coin to feature a design different from the Voyageur introduced in 1935, and is the first unique one year reverse design coin ever in Canada.

The Silver Dollar:
This unique silver dollar design features the centre block of the Parliament buildings in Ottawa and the Latin phrase "FIDE SVORVM REGNAT", meaning "He reigns by the faith of his people".

1939 Bronze Royal Visit Medallion:

The front of the medallion features a map of Canada in the centre (before Newfoundland joined confederation in 1949), and a coat-of-arms with the year 1939 at the top. The reverse features a very regal portrait of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth (now referred to as the Queen Mum).

Historic Stamps Included:

1¢ Stamp with Princesses Elizabeth II (at age 13) - later to become Queen Elizabeth and Margaret (at age 8). 3¢ Stamp with King George VI and Queen Elizabeth.
