This very large proof swimming beaver coin weighs 5 ounces of pure silver, and has been produced with an extremely low mintage of just 1,500 coins. The image was designed by renowned Canadian artist Emily Damstra, and features a portrait of a beaver in mid-dive, a gnawed portion of the tree gripped in its chisel-shaped incisors. The beaver's elongated body is at the forefront, as it navigates the familiar confines of its pond. Acting as a natural rudder, its tail helps steady itself in the water. Its hind feet propel it towards the bottom of the pond, where it will add the branch to its winter food reserve.
The coin is engraved with the word "CANADA," the date "2014" and the face value of "50 DOLLARS."
This coin is accompanied with an art card hand signed by the artist, an exclusive bonus to The Shopping Channel. This is the second 5 ounce beaver coin produced by the RCM. The first coin sold out almost immediately and now sells in the secondary market at significantly above the original issue price.
