In Greek mythology, Pandora ("all gifted") was the first woman, fashioned by Zeus as part of the punishment of mankind. Zeus created Pandora and sent her to Prometheus ("foresight), and his brother Epimetheus ("hindsight"), to punish them for their presumption in stealing fire from heaven, and aimed to punish men as well, accepting the gift. Pandora was made in heaven and every god contributed something to perfect her. Aphrodite gave her beauty, Hermes persuasion, Apollo music, etc.
Thus equipped with the very best qualities, she was conveyed to earth, and presented to Epimetheus, who gladly accepted her, though cautioned by his brother to beware of Zeus and his gifts. With her, Pandora was given a beautiful jar that Zeus instructed her not to open, regardless of the circumstances. But Pandora was seized with an eager curiosity to know what this jar contained and one day she slipped off the cover and looked in. Forthwith, there escaped a multitude of plagues for the human body, as well as envy, spite and revenge for the human mind. Pandora hastened to replace the lid, but alas, the whole contents of the jar had escaped and only one thing remained. The only thing that remained lay at the bottom and was hope.
So, to this day, whenever evils are abroad, hope never entirely leaves us. As long as we have hope, no amount of other ills can make us completely wretched.
About Vicenza Gold by Tagliamonte
This unique collection from Vicenza (Venice) Italy is the result of five years of research which lead to the rediscovery of the ancient art of Venetian Cameo gems. Mr. Nino Tagliamonte, along with two Venetian artists, successfully experimented with original Roman blending, processing and casting methods to develop a formula allowing them to create Venetian Cameo gems identical to the antique originals. Available in a variety of colours and set with 14K and 18K gold, the gems are hand wrought with incandescent glass, and the exact colour is established only when cooled. These beautiful works of art rival the most breathtaking genuine gemstones!
