The word "Maenads" celebrates Bacchus, leaving their self to every kind of wildness and dancing in a circle on a drum rhythm. In Greek mythology, Maenads were female worshipper of Dionysus, the Greek god of mystery, wine and the Roman god, Bacchus. Their name literally translates as "raving ones." The mysteries of Dionysus inspired the women to ecstatic frenzy. They were usually pictured as crowned with vine leaves, clothed in a fawnskins, carrying the thyrus and dancing with wild abandon. The Maenads are the most significant members of the Thiasus, the retinue of Dionysus.
About Vicenza Gold by Tagliamonte
This unique collection from Vicenza (Venice) Italy is the result of five years of research which lead to the rediscovery of the ancient art of Venetian Cameo gems. Mr. Nino Tagliamonte, along with two Venetian artists, successfully experimented with original Roman blending, processing and casting methods to develop a formula allowing them to create Venetian Cameo gems identical to the antique originals. Available in a variety of colours and set with 14K and 18K gold, the gems are hand wrought with incandescent glass, and the exact colour is established only when cooled. These beautiful works of art rival the most breathtaking genuine gemstones!
