We recently sat down with Cathy to chat about the origin of her exciting line.
Heres what she had to say
Where does the name Prai come from?
Cathy: Its based on the Prai root. It was actually founded 1,000 years ago in the remote jungles of Thailand. It used to be used for medicinal purposes. The monks at the temple spas would treat the royal families with the Prai root. They would slice the root open and use it to treat burns, cuts and abrasions. Pregnant women would also use it to rub across their tummies to keep the skin elastic. Of course today we dont use it for that, but we realize that the Prai root has a magical, smoothing effect on skin. The Prai root irons out wrinkles just like ironing a wrinkled shirt.
Q: Whats your background and how did you get involved with this product?
Cathy: I was going to be a lawyer and then Revlon hired me as an intern to work in their legal department. I ended up working with marketing, sales and public relations. I did 11 years of that.
Then I was approached by a group of businessmen who ran the Thai Development Fund. Knowing that I was in the beauty business, they talked about this phenomenal concept and how the Prai root was cut up and used. I flew to Thailand and visited with the local village ladies who were still preparing the root mashing it over an open fire. So thats how we came up with the concept of using the root. We have the worldwide rights to use these ancient monk recipes.
Q: How long ago was this skin care launched?
Cathy: Its actually been four years this month.
Q: Where is Prai currently available?
Cathy: Our line is sold in the U.S., England and were the # 1 line in Australia.
Q: How do you explain the success of the line?
Cathy: I think that we have really focused on our quality. Our products are high-end and upscale. Weve also tried to maintain a personal relationship with our customers. We send them birthday cards and often invite them for lunches. We love to receive feedback.
Q: Who is this line geared to?
Cathy: It really is geared to women of all ages, and any skin type. We have ladies from 30 to 98. We also appeal to a large age range.
Q: What product would you recommend starting out with?
Cathy: Thats like saying which of your children do you like best? I would say that weve been very successful with our Radiant Eye Repair. They love our Radiant family. We have a Silk collection which has also been very popular because it contains real silk it leaves the skin feeling silky smooth. Its just gorgeous.
Q: What is your personal skin care regimen?
Cathy: Im a junkie. I need three bathrooms because I have shelves upon shelves of these products. But I tend to use our whole Radiant collection without fail. I use our Silk Collection at night. I really use it all. Im someone who believes in layering. I always say let your skin tell you what treatment it needs. If it tells you that its dull, do this. If its dry, do something different.
Q: What can you tell anyone who is thinking about trying the line?
Cathy: We always say that if your skin isnt absolutely radiant and flawless then give us a try. You can achieve that look in very little time.
