Get more backstage buzz about our TV hosts at theShoppingChannelBLOG.com
Multi-talented host Carol Fysh , who once won top honours for shorthand and
is a certified SCUBA diver, loves all the challenges of learning new things,
like snowboarding and meeting new people everyday at The Shopping Channel.
Although her start in show business was on the radio as a newscaster, according to Carol, "I always felt very comfortable working in front of a camera. I had done some on-air charity work as a volunteer on our local community television station, but it was my husband who really encouraged me to apply for a host position at The Shopping Channel." Carol and her husband share the "gift of the gab" with him being on Toronto radio station 680 NEWS and Carol happily chatting it up for hours on The Shopping Channel. "Between the two of us we have four grown children, three grandchildren and a big, golden Labrador retriever so quiet time at home is quite a rare and precious commodity," laughs Carol.
Some people may not know that Carol was actually hired twice by The Shopping Channel. "The first time it was Betty-Jean that hired me," says Carol. "Unfortunately, the timing just wasn't right and I ended up leaving to spend more time with my kids who were still young." Then, in 1999, with her children older and her home closer to the studio, Carol had an "aha" moment while working at an insurance company. "I thought I was enjoying my work when one day at home I found my old high school yearbook," remembers Carol, "and in it my math teacher had written, 'Don't get stuck in some office just typing your whole life.' Right then and there I just knew that I really wanted to do something else." We were thrilled that Carol decided to come back to The Shopping Channel where she has been showering audiences with her laughter and optimistic enthusiasm ever since.
