Halo Pocket charger

By Acadia

from Winnipeg (Manitoba)

Bronze Reviewer

I'm rather disappointed in this item. I bought it when it first came to TSC. I charged it as per the directions. They said it takes about 6 hours to charge but I left it charging overnight for about 12 hours.

The first time I used it, my Samsung Galaxy S3 was at 37 percent. The Halo managed to get the charge up to 98% before the Halo ran out of charge. A charge of only 62%.

I just used it again yesterday. The same phone was at 22% battery, and the Halo got it to 64% before it ran out of charge. A charge of only 44%. And yes, the Halo was at full charge as I had charged it a couple days prior.

It's good in an absolute pinch, but certainly doesn't give anywhere near the security or amount of charge that the representative on air claims. She claimed that the Halo charges her Galaxy S3 1 and a 1/2 times before it runs out of charge.

Works for the purpose it was intended

By TH

I bought this to charge my Kobo Vox which has a very short battery life. I bought the Halo to give me some extra reading time. I did some online research before purchasing and even though the VOX doesn't show it's charging, (ie:the charge light isn't on) it is drawing charge from the Halo. When my Vox was at 10% (and in the red zone advising me to recharge) I was able to get another couple of hours of reading by connecting it to the Halo. Works for me!

An Update

By Darlene

I've been using and testing this device with alot of different electronics I have.

This works and is great for small items: iPhone, iPod (iPhone5 - should already come with the connector to the phone and like mine should be able to swap out the plug and use the USB connection to the Halo).

I couldn't 'fully' charge my KoboVox or Athenos iPad - only charged them to about 30%, then had to charge the Halo again - so it took me about 4X to charge an iPad to 100% capacity. It didn't charge my JVC and Pentax handheld camera/video, it did charge my HP pocket camera. This tells me that the Halo is not made for large electronics: thus, the milliamperes hour needs to be larger. Larger electronics have greater Amps and that is found on the back or bottom the electronic device.

Halo is rated for 2800mAh which is equivalent to 2.8A (You must buy a battery charger that has the same voltage as the device that you are attaching it to is rated for.) And that would explain why it charges small devices.

With the man saying that it can hold a charge for 3 months is wrong - it can't. All devices 'leak' amps when not in use and is completely drained when you don't use for months. Yes I charge it after every use and charge it when I haven't used it in some time. I always have it beside the laptop and its charging while I'm on the computer.

Its a good habit to get into so the device is always ready. Devices is great for emergencies.

Great product

By Fussy One

from Calgary, Alberta

I bought one for my daughter and tried it out myself first. It worked. I did take it out of the package and charged it. It is not fully charged when you get it - there is only enough power to partially charge a phone. I then ordered two more and they love it. They also charged theirs up first before using which didn't take long.

Disappointed

By Collector

This is my second review.

When I received the charger, I assumed it did not come fully charged but the Halo doesn't seem to stay charged. The description and the video states that it is supposed to stay charged for many months. It does not. I have to recharge it after every use and I only use it simply for my iPhone. Even if my phone is at 50% by the time the Halo charges the last 50%, the Halo itself needs to be recharged. If I recharge my iPhone say from 20% then be careful because it drains the Halo.

This is disappointing however the Halo is still good if you're in a hurry. Just remember CHARGE the Halo AFTER EACH USE.

Other than that - it's an alright product.

Halos are from Heaven

Great product for my purse if my phone is low but the Halo doesn't seem to stay charged. I thought it was supposed to stay charged for a long period of time but I have to recharge it after every use. I purchased one for my husband and one for each of my boys, so 4 in all. They haven't used theirs yet so hopefully it will stay charged longer. If not for the charging issue I would have given it a 5 star review. I would recommend it as long as it's charged before you put it in your purse or car. Thanks!

Am disappointed with this item

By Lucy the acadian

from Nova Scotia

The reason I purchased this product was for my KoBo Vox. I watched demonstration of the Halo and the man who was demonstrating was asked if it would charge a Kobo and he said yes. Well it does not. Apparently it does not put our enough power for the Kobo, so the gentleman showing it did not know the product well enough. Would not recommend this item.

Portable Peace of Mind!

By Anne

from Toronto

Silver Reviewer

I have this in Pink and it matches the protective cover on my iphone; and the colour of my Blackberry.
I have used it to charge both my Blackberry and my iphone.
It didn't charge my digital camera even though the adapters fit. Not sure why.
However, I am pleased that it did charge my two smart phones.
I have already recommended it to friends and neighbours.
