Finally - a gorgeous Russian Alexandrite
from Medicine Hat, Alberta
I wrote a review on this ring a while back. I wasn't thrilled with the washed-out colour of the alexandrite but wrote that I would keep it anyhow because I want a genuine piece of Russian Alexandrite. That was about the third ring I had ordered as I kept returning them all due to poor quality stones. After looking at the one I was going to keep, it just didn't feel right as I wasn't happy, so I ordered two more!! Finally, I received a ring that I am very pleased with. The alexandrite is actually green. With the other rings, you could barely tell the difference between the alexandrite and the white sapphires. I would love to own a much larger stone, but I guess that isn't going to happen. As for other reviewers saying that the stone changes colour; I'd like to know what they're on!! This stone simply does NOT change colour. I've ordered at least five of them and not once have I seen any colour changing. I have on immitation alexandrite, however, not once on the real stone. I not a great fan of this stone, but since it's suppose to be rare, I wanted one in my collection.
Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Let the compliments begin!
from ST C
I've always been a big fan of Generations 1912 and have several pieces but I don't recall any other piece getting more compliments than I've had with this ring. I ordered the rhodium plate, love the sparkle and have been wearing it non-stop since I recieved it. The colour of the stones I have do change with different lighting and is very noticable on the larger stone. Regardless to this the workmanship is gorgeous and I do not hesitate to recommend it.
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

received my ring today & what a beauty she is. i will admit i was expecting the setting to be far to large for my hand as i have small, fine hands.but when i put the ring on all i said was hello!!,she is prefect.although i was a little upset that the stone was not quite the same as we were told mine dose not have a very clear colour change, if any but,in saying that the colour is a pretty minty colour which is so uncommon. love love love it.

I loved the look of this ring. I did have a problem with the size but true to their word they have offered to resize. I am waiting for this to come back so i can enjoy this.
This is the second time I have purchased this ring and what a difference, the first time there were so many inclusions in the ring it looked like the stones were broke in half, the only thing I wonder about is why it does not say Russian Alexandrite on my order page and why I cannot see any other colors in my stones, I have done some research on this stone and it says that all Russian Alexandrite has flaws, I will take it to my jewelry store and have them look at it to confirm if it is the true stone.

Loved the ring but found the gold plating to be washed out - hardly any gold colour! Alexandrite stones, paper thin with tiny claws - afraid they will be lost with wear. Sapphires have a nice sparkle.

This is my 2nd attempt to receive a colour changing Alexandrite in this ring. The 1st ring I received was lovely but the alexandrites were a washed out pale green, more like pale peridots with no colour change so I thought I would try once again with the great sale price AND I was lucky!!! The 2nd ring has med. green alexandrites and under different light conditions they change to a purple/pink with flashes of orange/red. Alexandrite is my birthstone and I am very, very happy to have this beautiful ring. The workmanship is excellent....I am returning to 1st ring BUT certainly keeping the 2nd one....love it!
Chrysoberyl or alexandrite?
from CONCEPTION BAY SOUTH
This is a beautiful ring. The workmanship and quality are outstanding. The ring has a comfortable profile - neither too high nor too flat. The white sapphires are very nice. Diamonds would be nicer, but then the price wouldn't be in my budget! The difficulty is with the 'alexandrites' and is why I have given this ring a 4 instead of a 5 star rating. I am no expert, but my understanding is that true alexandrite, by definition, changes from a green to a red colour in daylight vs artificial light. It is very dramatic and unmistakable. I have seen it when jewellery shopping while cruising in the Caribbean. VERY EXPENSIVE! Chrysoberyl is essentially the same gemstone, but can be with or without colour change properties. If the colour change is slight or of different colours than certain recognized alexandrite combinations, then the gem is not classified as alexandrite. If this is true, then the gems that I have are NOT alexandrite, but chrysoberyl. Still a nice gem, but not in the same league as true Russian alexandrite. Please be aware that this is my understanding. Also note that my experience may not be typical. I love Generations 1912 jewellery and have bought many pieces from them - including many 'alexandrite' pieces. None have been what I believe are alexandrite. However, they are still beautiful and valuable in their own right. They are just not as valuable as alexandriteI am keeping the ring anyway, but buyer beware. Know that you may be buying chrysoberyl, not alexandrite. True Russian alexandrite would likely be up to 4 to 5 times the price of this ring.. If you are wondering about this you can do a search online or go visit your favourite gemnologist to get more information. This ring is worth the price for the workmanship alone, IMO. Especially at the sale price I would recommend it to a friend, but I would also let them know what they are probably buying.
This is my first purchase from this line, and the ring is beautiful. The alexandrite has great colour and the stone does change colour under different lighting. The white sapphires sparkle. Would purchase from this line again.
I like the setting which is quite typical of Generations 1912 -- lovely milgrain work and the saphires on the ring I got do sparkle. The Alexandrite is quite pale -- at first I thought I received the incorrect ring. I have a couple of Alexandrite rings (one from Generations 1912) and both are a clear mid-green and have colour change properties. If I had paid full price for the ring it would be going back, however at the sale price it does have some value.
