Still hot but better than having nothing

Besides the shipping issues, this product has problems. When I first turn on the unit, it blows my 15amp breaker when the compressor comes on (although OK once running and compressor goes off/on again). HOWEVER, this 12,000 can't keep its cool! I actually see the temp go up during the day by as much as 7 degrees. My old much cheaper 9,000 BTU window A/C did a much better job, but a real pain to un/install as I have very strange windows. I used to program it to turn on about 3 hours before I came home from work and it pretty much cooled my whole condo. This unit barely can keep the upstairs cool running full time (I still have to use fans) with it sitting near the doorframe blowing out into the hallway. It should be more efficient since it recirculates indoor air instead of cooling down exterior hot humid air like the window A/C did. If it weren't so heavy and a pain to pack up and move downstairs again, I'd send it back. But how do I know which portable can live up to my window A/C??? Bottom line, I'm not impressed and still quite warm (it's too big and loud to put in my bedroom, so it's in a bedroom at the end of the hallway. The 9,000 BTU window one worked well... why not this unit? I am sorry that I got it but too much hassle returning. Well, it's better than nothing...

Amana 12,000 BTU Portable Air Conditione

I ordered this unit as a Showstopper in early May to be delivered by Canada Post. Unit did not arrive, so 2 wks. later I contacted TSC-they suggested I give it a bit more time. Called again after 3 weeks & was advised unit would come by Sameday courier and arrive by June 7. Unit arrived June 7, only one delivery person, no trolly and he struggled to get the package out of the vehicle and into my condo. The outer box, was heavily soiled &had been torn open and retaped. When the courier co. called to arrange delivery they were missing the unit number from my address (over 130 units in complex). The delivery slip provided by the courier had no phone number, incomplete address and totally incorrect postal code. The TSC label on the inside package was complete and correct. While I appreciate the fact that TSC did not charge a shipping charge (Thank you), I question the reliablility of this courier company.The unit functions beautifully-43 degrees outside yesterday and it kept the 1600 sq ft main floor of my condo comfortable. My only criticism is that it is a bit noisy and half of the window seal slats does not provide an airtight seal, requiring padding.Amana provides confusing instructions as to how to get the unit out of the package. The top of the box advises the unit be placed on its side and the bottom flaps of the box be fully opened. The unit is then to be set upright and the box removd from the top. Upon inspecting the box the instructions on all 4 sides indicate 'Do not lie unit on this side!'
Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Air Conditioner Works Well but.....
This is the quietest air conditioner I have had so far. Works well and cools very nicely in my bedroom. However, I also had problems with getting it unpacked. I live alone and finally had to cut away all of the packing just to try and get it out. The worst part was prying it out of the cardboard base it was set into because of the overall weight of the machine. Like another customer, I also had to hope it would work properly when I finally got it set up!! I did check off that I would recommend it to a friend (but only if she has a large male friend to help her!!)
Sameday Courier? More like Someday.

I ordered this unit on May 8, 2013 and didn't receive it until June 3, 2013. To add insult to injury it is so loud it sounds like there is a truck idling in my living room. There is no way I could have it in a bedroom. Very difficult to watch TV as the noise is so distracting. I don't feel it does a good job cooling in humid weather for 12,000 BTUs. The thermostat is not accurate and doesn't turn the unit on and off at the set temperature. I would return it but I disposed of the original packaging. I would rate it no stars if I could. What a disappointment!

I ordered 2 of these--I had no issues with shipping time, but the outer boxes for each unit were falling apart by the time they got to me. The manufacturer's packaging was fine, though. Did anyone notice that this Showstopper had a S&H charge of $50.24 by Canada Post, but you paid nothing by Same Day Courier? That was so ridiculous to me--I saved $100.00 off my order. I wonder if TSC's CSR's mentioned this to customers who ordered by telephone. I will say, though, that this Same Day Courier's service is questionable because the last time they shipped something to me, I couldn't get any tracking information from them, and when they finally provided it, the product had already been delivered to me! Okay, so the only minor issues I have with this Amana unit is that the air-flow cover should have been automatic, and the unit should have had the option to change from degrees Fahrenheit to Celsius. Also, I see that you have to run the fan for 12 hours to remove moisture from the unit's innards before storing--that's a bit much to me. The unit is installed in my living room and I use 2 fans to direct the air to my bedroom. It cools my 850 sq. ft. space fairly well so far. The real test will come when we get our first heat wave. I'll follow up my review at that time.

Very Powerful & Attractive
I have this in my living room, and it cools the first floor of my home.I love that there is a remote, and a magnetic spot on the side of the unit to place the remonte.The unit is powerful, and looks very nice in my home. It works quickly to cool the rooms.
Works as described
I also had problems with shipping and got the product on June 7. Was upset about it but at least they came when I was home and the product works fine. We haven't had really high temperatures here but it seems to cool fine. The only thing I would have liked is to be able to change the temperature setting to degrees Celsius. Overall I am happy with the product.

As a previous reviewer related I had the same experience concerning the shipment of this product.The outer box was ripped, luckily there was another box on the inside, and it was also covered with this black dust.Sameday was the courier used by the shopping channel and the service provided was horrible.First the driver came to deliver the item, someone was there to receive it, but the driver refused to make the delivery saying the item as too heavy for him to carry.Second trying to contact Sameday is useless I could never get to speak to anyone on their toll free number and contacting their Montreal office was the same no one was able to speak to me in english and their attitude leave much to be desired.I eventually received my order after countless emails correspondance to the Shopping Channel and Sameday.The Shopping Channel should certainly find another courrier service to make delivery of this kind.However,I do like the product.

We ordered this item on May 6th and received it on May 31st(unbelievable).Starting May 16th we contacted the shopping channel regarding the fact that we had received no word about the delivery of this item other than an email on May 9th stating that it was shipped & should receive it in 5-7 business days.Yet on the 16th we were told to call back the following day if we had not received it by lunchtime on the 17th, which we did and at that time was told to wait a couple more days which would give you some time to check on the status of my order. Considering this was Friday of the May long weekend the ealiest we would hear anything back from you wuold be Tuesday,May 21st(already 2 weeks from our order date.After several more calls and talking to two supervisors we were finally told that there was an issue regarding the delivery of this item and we were not an isolated incident(which from our understanding we could have been told right from our original phone call on the 16th of May,would have made the situation a little easier for us).During my conversation with one of the supervisors I suggested that the least that could be done, was for us to be refunded our delivery charge which he readily ageed to and informed us to call back on the day we received the AC and our visa would be credited immediately.After more phone calls to you and the delivery company we finally recived the AC on Friday,May31st,at which time I called the shopping channel and was told that the credit to our visa was done as we speek.After checking online banking on Thursday June 6th we saw that there was still no credit made to our visa. So making yet another phone call to you I spoke to another rep and then a supervisor who informed me that our credit had been requested but not yet processed.After explaining what we were told on the 31st, yet again, that it was processed immediately on the 31st.So as per this conversation I was again told that the credit was done immediately (remains to be seen.This entire experience has been very frustraing and an entire nightmare.We would rate the item itself as ok but much louder than anticipated.Normally we watch TV on a 10 volume but when the AC is on we have to turn it up to 24.I would possibly recommend this product but not without addressing the noise factor of the unit and the frustration we encounterted during the delivery process
Pleased with purchase
The delivery was contracted to a local company (Winnipeg) that only delivers from 10am-3pm and can not give you an exact time or even a 2 hr window. Frustrating. (box is big and heavy so picking it up wasn't an option for me)It wasn't as easy to set up as it looks - and while the video says one person can do it - that one person would have to be pretty strong. Just removing it from the box was a task (for 2 able bodied average folks). The hose doesn't connect as easily as it shows - but it's a one time thing, so managable.On the plus side - my windows open to the side (rather than up and down), so it works well for that. (most models are not suited for verticle openings). This was perfect - however, the window piece doesn't fit quite as well as it does in the video - but a little bit of cardboard and packing tape made it work. (lost a star because the video made the set up look much easier than it was - if you lower your expections for "ease of set up", you'll be fine)Cooled down a 10X10 room from 75 down to 70 when on "high" for 1/2 an hour. Not as noisy as other portable a/c's that I've heard and it's very easy to move from one room to the next.
