Based on its initial collector response, the new 2013 "O Canada" coin series is likely to be one of the most sought after and difficult to obtain modern collections from the Royal Canadian Mint. Subscriptions for all twelve coins sold out from the Mint almost immediately, as well as the initial releases of single coins in this series. The Shopping Channel is pleased to be able to still offer the full collection at the original issue price, while limited remaining quantities last.
This 12 coin series celebrates our national identity and features some of Canada's most popular images and icons. Total mintage for each is limited to 40,000. The coins are the highest quality produced by the Royal Canadian Mint, double struck in pure silver with a near flawless matte proof finish and a weight of just over half an ounce.
The first six coins in the series are the Inuksuk, Beaver, RCMP, Polar Bear and Summer Life and The Wolf. These six coins will be sent immediately upon purchase. The seven additional coins can be purchased when they become available. Upon the purchase of the seventh coin, a wooden display box will be sent at no extra charge (a $50 retail value). Inukshuk Design:
This coin features an Inukshuk with mountains, frozen sea and the northern lights around it, all true characteristics of the Canadian Arctic. Living high above the tree line on the Arctic tundra, the Inuit and other migratory people of the High Arctic have used the tools provided to them by nature to not only thrive in one of the planet's most hostile climates, but also help to ensure the survival of others in their region. One of these tools is the Inukshuk. Its name meaning "a thing that acts on behalf of a person," an Inukshuk (pronounced "inook-shook") is a sculpture of piled stone used as a place marker, navigational aid and communication tool. This coin tells the beautiful story of the history and traditions of the Inukshuk and the Canadian Arctic. Beaver Design:
This coin features an image of a beaver felling a birch tree. The beaver, viewed from the front with its head turned toward the right side of the coin, rises from the hard work of chopping at the birch trunk with its prominent incisors. Framing the image is an outer band featuring the word "CANADA," the date "2013," and the face value of "10 DOLLARS," as well as a small stylized beaver paw print symbol. The beaver has been a widely used symbol of Canada since the early era of fur trading, when Canadian beaver pelts were prized for fur hats in European high society. Today, the beaver is also a symbol of the industriousness of Canadians. RCMP Design:
This coin features A Royal Canadian Mounted Police Officer on horseback wearing formal attire. Riding breeches and the wide brimmed Stetson are easily distinguishable. Across the central background a Canadian Flag flows. On the outer band features the word "CANADA," the date "2013," and the face value of "10 DOLLARS," as well as a small stylized Mountie symbol. Polar Bear Design:
A symbol of the power and vastness of our nation's northern landscape, the polar bear is king of the Canadian Arctic. And no wonder: not only is Canada home to the largest polar bear population on earth, but this massive beast has the ability to survive and thrive amid our country's harshest climates. This coin showcases the beauty of the polar bear and its icy Arctic surroundings. The design shows a polar bear perched patiently on the edge of an Arctic ice floe, waiting for the exact moment to strike and seize its prey. The outer band features the word "CANADA," the date "2013," and the face value of "10 DOLLARS," as well as a bear paw print at the left side.
The polar bear has been one of the most popular themes to appear on Canadian coins. First appearing on a silver dollar in 1980, this dollar coin became sought after around the world with dealers buying the coins back from collectors at more than double the original issue price. The new "O Canada" $10 coin is likely to be extremely popular around the world as well as in Canada Summer Life Design:
The summer cottage retreat is as much a part of Canadian life as maple syrup and Mounties! This beautiful coin celebrates the great tradition of getting away from city life to enjoy Canada's beautiful woodlands and fresh water. This coin is a great gift and collectible that celebrates Canada's natural wonders and our unique iconography.
Canadian artist Claudio D'Angelo's design features a scene from the perspective of someone sitting in the bow of a canoe. A happy family-a man in a Muskoka chair on a dock, and four children playing in the cool lake waters-waves in greeting. Your coin also features an extremely detailed background of a balcony-fronted cabin, a smooth rocky outcropping of a wooded shoreline, a sailboat floating in the distance, and a sky filled with stylized sunbeams. Framing the entire image is a polished outer band engraved with the words "CANADA," the date "2013," the face value of "10 DOLLARS" and a small stylized Muskoka chair symbol. The Wolf Design:
This powerful, mysterious, resilient creature has roamed free throughout northern and western Canada and in the region around the Great Lakes, singing its song to the coming and going of the moon. Canada boasts the world's second-largest wolf population, with estimates between 50,000 and 60,000.
The design shows a full-body portrait of a lone wolf set against the backdrop of a remote Canadian Arctic landscape. The wolf stands at ease, gazing toward the viewer with just a hint of a wolfish grin.
