ABOUT VIVIAN SHYU
Designer Vivian Shyu was born in Taiwan where she was raised by her Chinese grandparents, a top commanding general and a hostess of the cultural, artistic community in Taipei. At the age of 7, Shyu moved to Canada to join her father, a professor of Asian studies at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton.
She completed two years in engineering at the Fredericton University before switching to the school of Fashion Design at St. Lawrence College in Kingston, Ontario to pursue her passion for fashion.
Finishing the three year program with honors, Shyu topped off her diploma by winning 2nd prize in New York's 1980 America's next Great Designer awards. Her creative design sketches were recognized by America's leading couturiers including Calvin Klein, Halston and Bill Blass. Shyu's award was accompanied by a personal offer from Calvin Klein to join his design staff. In 1982 Vivian Shyu boldly launched her own label.
HER DESIGNS Shyu is highly recognized in the Canadian fashion industry for both her design creativity and her business acumen. For more than two decades, she has successfully created a highly wearable and distinctive clothing line for modern, active women. Vivian provides a complete look that embodies casual chic.
