When you are ready to start using a pacifier with your baby introduce the round nipple and while they are in the care of an adult attach the toy at-first with only the top two buttons, then using all three.

Until your baby is able to turn over on their own, remove the you from the crib at sleep times

At about 2 months your baby should be able to turn over on their own and will start to hold the toy, which will help advance their first gross-motor skill of bringing-their-hands-to-midline and help your baby learn to self-sooth

The different textures on the toy also help your baby start to develop their fine motor skills like the pincer grip

When your baby starts to develop teeth be sure to check the pacifier for any signs of wear-and-tear and replace the pacifier promptly if they are seen; as well if you want to use an orthodontic pacifier at this time, start to use the adapter to modify the pacifier attachment to your baby's favourite toy.

If your baby is very attach to their pacifier ages 8 or 9 months to 12 months, it's a good time to start limiting the pacifier use to the car and the crib.

By 24 months your baby will be starting to communicate their needs verbally as well as striving to do "big kid" things. This also is a good time to start introducing the concept of not using the pacifier and using their toy with it unattached.

Finally, you and your baby will decide when it is time to cut the base off the you to remove the pacifier permanently, after this their loved toy has become a transitional toy that provides the same comfort and security that their pacifier once did, but in a more age appropriate way.
