Awesome machine

By Padraig

This is our second Dyson animal vacuum, the last one lasted over 10 years before the power head went, was not worth the cost to repair as are most things this day and age, still has great suction and use it as a garage vacuum for cars. The new one in lighter and has better features, dog groomer brush, extendable hose easier to use for reaching high place, like the ball feature for ease of use, and of course great suction.

The only downside is I did not purchase it sooner!

its the first vaccum that actually cleans the carpets, the only thing we didn't like was the instructions were not the best but even then once you get it all together I've never had such versatility and suction in one vaccum.

Fabulous suction!!

When they say it has twice the suction power, it really does. I can almost feel the carpet being slightly lifted as it goes over a spot. I can't believe the fine dust/dirt particles it lifted from my carpet. I absolutely love this machine and highly recommend it!!

Lots of power

This is my second dyson animal vacuum but my first ball vacuum. I'm happy over all with it, the only thing I'm not fond of is the fact I have to try twice to get the vacuum to stand upright because it doesn't seem to click in the first time. My older vacuum you only had to push it upright once and it didn't fall back down on you. To me that is the only flaw but other then that I love my new vacuum!

hose difficuly

By grammajla

i wanted to use for several weeks before commenting on the whole it is alright, but the hose is so inflexible with the wand feature out, you cannot operate at close range because the connnection of the hose requires too much pulling to alleviate the bend i really feel like it's going to split

Excellent suction BUT...depends on your needs!

The vacuum itself is very powerful. Great for carpets and going over hardwood floors. You know, just straight up vacuuming. So if you're buying it because you have a lot of pet fur on your carpet, then it does a good job. Just don't get "sucked in" to thinking that all the extra things are going to make it awesome. The multifunction tools are practically useless. The suction on the hose (that is long enough to easily clean high ceilings and corners) is so powerful that as soon as you turn the vacuum on, you can't keep the hose stretched out. The suction actually coils the hose back in, making all the other attachments really difficult to use. You have to keep one hand on the vacuum and one hand on the hose in order to keep the hose stretched out so you can reach anything. As soon as you let go of the vacuum, it will start to pull itself toward you and the hose won't stay stretched out. You actually have to stretch with a lot of force to make your attachments reach anything that is longer than the length of the uncoiled hose. So I can only reach anything that is no further away then the length of my outstretched arms, and if you need an extra hand to move something while you use the attachment, you let go of the vacuum and the hose coils back in on itself and you can't do anything about it. Really disappointed in that part, it's just as well the attachments weren't part of the vacuum because they are such a pain in the neck to use. It actually makes me wish I hadn't bought the vacuum. It's so difficult to go under the couch or on stairs that I would rather use my old one. There is an attachment you can use to vacuum your animals, it's like a brush, but again the suction is so strong that's there's no way I can get near my dog or cat with it. They run for the hills, terrified. I wouldn't want my body to be vacuumed with it either!!! It's like I'm coming at them with a shop-vac. Switching back and forth between the vacuum and the hose is also annoying compared to the last vacuum I had, which was just a cheap Walmart purchase. Don't get me wrong, the reason I got the Dyson was because the Walmart upright one I bought was marketed for hardwood and carpet, but it just didn't cut it for my carpets. But I would rather use my old one now when I want to use the hose and attachments for doing corners and baseboards and window ledges for example, as I go around vacuuming my floors. Going back and forth between attachments and vacuum is a pain. It's several steps...with my old one I just clicked it upright and pulled out the hose attachment and use it immediately in a corner. Then pop it back in the hole and straight back to vacuuming. With the dyson, you click it upright into position once, then twice, pop the little cover on the top, pull out the hose, click the hard end of the hose into place, get an attachment (only one attachment hooks onto the vacuum when not in use, and you can't really use the hose without an attachment because it the shape of it on the end, hard to explain), click the attachment on, and then struggle to stretch the darn hose out to reach anything. Then to go back to vacuuming, all that in reverse. I guess I will just have to get used to it. Sorry, not a satisfied customer, just because the vacuum is marketed as being the "animal" edition, with all these multifunction tools that are really too difficult to use. I don't want to sound like I'm whining, because I waited two months of trying to get used to it before I wrote this review. You have good suction alright, but you dropped the ball on the user-friendly multi-functionality. As for recommending it to a friend, I suppose I would if they have a house with a lot of carpet and a lot of fur. And if they wanted it for just straight up vacuuming floors. But that's it. I would not recommend this vacuum if they have only hardwood floors because all this suction is not necessary if you don't have any carpet in your house. Also, the attachments with this model are less than impressive when it comes to user-friendliness. Other brands of vacuums have you beat.
