18KT Gold Pendant with Genuine Ancient and Very Rare Greek Tetradrachm Coin, Circa 227 - 221 BCE

This unique pendant features an extremely rare and high quality genuine ancient Greek silver coin dating back over 2200 years, framed in an 18kt gold custom fitted bezel. This coin was issued by the Macedonian King Antigonos III who reigned from 227 BCE to 221 BCE. In less than a decade of rule he not only secured the borders of his nation but, he also re-established Macedon as the dominant power in the region. The obverse of the coin portrays the wreathed head of Poseidon, Greek God of the Seas. The obverse depicts a seated Apollo, Greek God of music, poetry, art, archery, medicine, sun, light and knowledge, holding a bow in his outstretched hand, monogram below, sword on the ships front pointed section of the hull and is written on the side of the bow "Basilews Antigonou".  The reverse of this coin commemorates Antigonos' defeat of the fleet of Ptolemy III Euergetes off Caria in 227. The Hellenistic baroque extravagance of the obverse of this coin is balanced by the solid elegance of the reverse. This coin has been carefully encircled with a custom designed 18kt gold frame that securely and carefully displays this spectacular ancient coin transforming it into a magnificent piece of jewellery.  While many ancient artifacts are damaged by time and the elements, this coin is exceptionally well preserved.
