Product Overview
This bronze signet ring is an authentic ancient Roman artifact, and dates to the height of the Roman Empire from 50 BC to 450 CE. It would have been worn with pride by its original owner through her daily tasks nearly 2000 years ago. It is suitable to be worn or to be displayed as a relic of history. Apart from personal adornment, signet rings had a personal function to perform. They were used as a form of personal identification; much like a signature would be used today. Lead or wax would be melted and dripped onto a surface, then the signet ring impressed onto it. As literacy spread throughout the Empire, this functional duty diminished in importance except for ceremonial purposes; however, the signet ring continued in use as personal adornment. In fact, it has survived to this day in the form of our own modern-day signet rings. While many ancient artifacts are damaged by time and the elements, this piece is exceptionally well preserved, with a natural green patina layered with history. The style is both simple and sophisticated, with a heavy weight in bronze. This one-of-a-kind accessory will undoubtedly fascinate you and those around you as you carry yourself with all the grace and mystery of ancient Rome.
