Product Overview
This $20 fine silver coin pays tribute to the Great Lakes and features Lake Superior. The Great Lakes are the world's largest system of fresh surface water. Its five lakes—Superior, Huron, Michigan, Erie and Ontario—are visible from the moon and hold about 20% of the world's freshwater supply. They were carved out and filled by prehistoric glaciers, and cover more than 243,000 square kilometres. This is one of the most biologically diverse regions in Canada with more than 150 fish and 50 plant species, some of which are not found anywhere else on earth.

The reverse design features an interpretation of a bathymetric map of Lake Superior, highlighted with coloured enamel. The coin weighs just over one ounce of pure silver. As a pure silver coin struck by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is HST/GST exempt.

The amazing Great Lakes are joined in a vast, continuously flowing waterway system that links the massive bodies of water through a series of channels, ultimately draining into the Atlantic Ocean. This system holds about one-fifth of the planet's freshwater and hosts some of the world's most voluminous lakes. Lake Superior is, by surface area, the world's largest freshwater lake, and contains as much water as all the other Great Lakes combined. The lake is about 563 kilometres in length and 257 kilometres in width.
