This is an extremely high grade complete original set of all six of Canada's $5 and $10 gold coins issued from 1912 to 1914. Five of the six coins are certified as "Very Choice Uncirculated" MS-64, and one coin is certified "Choice Uncirculated" MS-63. All of these coins have an exceptionally interesting and desirable pedigree, as they were held as part of Canada's national gold reserves in a vault in Ottawa since they were minted more than 100 years ago. They have all been certified by PCGS, the largest and most respected independent third party grading service in the world, including the designation as coming from Canada's national gold reserves.
The current Canadian Coin News Trends retail value for these coins, (which is also similar to the 2014 Charlton Catalogue) is as follows:
1912 $5 MS-64
1913 $5 MS-64
1914 $5 MS-64
1912 $10 MS-63

Although this retail value may be adjusted in the future to reflect these recently released examples coming into the market, this remains one of the finest possible rare complete sets of these historic gold coins of Canada.
From 1912 to 1914, the government of Canada produced $5 and $10 gold coins for circulation in Canada and for trade with the United States. The coins used gold from the Canadian Klondike, and were designed to be equal in size and weight with the popular American coins of the same denominations to allow for easy use in international trade. Each 22 karat coin contains just under one half ounce of pure gold and features the original Canadian Coat-of-arms in use in 1913, and an effigy of King George V.
The coins saw limited circulation, and with the start of the First World War in 1914, the coin program was cancelled. For close to 100 years, many of these first Canadian $5 and $10 gold coins sat in their original canvas bags, forming a part of Canada's national gold reserves. However, some of these coins were recently transferred to the Royal Canadian Mint and made available to collectors. This set is comprised of some of the absolute highest quality coins released by the Royal Canadian Mint. Includes:
