IT SLICES, IT DICES, BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!

Prepare my checklist for successful assembly. ✔
First, open package by cutting cardboard with box cutter. ✔
Cut cardboard into smaller pieces for recycling. ✔
Look for bandaids which apparently I don't have. ✔
Staunch bleeding with toilet paper. ✔
Return to task in hand by retrieving instruction sheet and laying pieces to be assembled on floor. ✔
Find packet of screws, washers, Allen key, etc. ✔
I REALLY hate Allen keys. ✔
Begin assembly by shooing the cat out the door. ✔
Assemble one side of unit. ✔
Stand unit up to assemble other side. ✔
Watch unit wobble, fold like a cheap suit and fall down. ✔
Caution myself not to use so many swear words. ✔
Attach shelves to unit. ✔
Shoo cat out again. ✔
Hunt for Allen key that has flipped out of my hand a dozen times already. ✔
(Have I mentioned how much I REALLY hate Allen keys?)

Take time off to cool down and have a coffee break. ✔
Stand unit up and notice that holes at the front of shelves won't align with pins on the uprights. ✔
Try banging front of shelves to make holes and pins align. ✔
Watch as unit becomes a parallelogram. ✔
Scream at cat. ✔
Call neighbour to come rescue me and finish assembly properly. ✔
Admire neighbour's handiwork with profuse thanks and wonder why I didn't call him sooner. ✔
Compliment him on how it no longer looks like a dog's breakfast. ✔
Grudgingly mention on survey: "Recommend this item to friends." ✔
